Rome Fiumicino (FCO)
Airport Overview
Leonardo da VinciβFiumicino Airport (Italian: Aeroporto internazionale di Roma-Fiumicino "Leonardo da Vinci"), universally known as Fiumicino Airport, is Italy's largest and busiest international airport and one of Europe's leading aviation hubs. Named after the Italian Renaissance polymath Leonardo da Vinci (1452β1519), the airport opened on 15 January 1961 to replace Rome's older Ciampino Airport for international traffic. It is located in the town of Fiumicino, 30 km (19 miles) southwest of Rome's historic centre, on the flat coastal plain near the Tyrrhenian Sea. The airport covers an extraordinary 16 square kilometres (6.2 sq mi) and serves as the primary hub for ITA Airways β Italy's national flag carrier β and as a significant operating base for Ryanair, Vueling, Wizz Air, easyJet, Neos, and AeroItalia.
2024 was a record-breaking year for Fiumicino. The airport handled 49.2 million passengers, a remarkable 21% increase over 2023's total of 40.5 million and a 13% improvement on the previous all-time record set in 2019. This positioned FCO as the 8th busiest airport in Europe and the 39th busiest in the world (2024 data). In August 2024 alone, Fiumicino processed over 5.1 million passengers β the highest monthly figure in the airport's history β and on 19 August 2024 set an all-time daily record of 180,000 passengers. The airport served over 230 non-stop destinations in 2024, with long-haul traffic growing 18% year-on-year (and 25% versus pre-pandemic 2019), enabling Fiumicino to enter CNN Travel's Top 10 ranking of the world's best-connected airports. Central and South America recorded 47% traffic growth over 2023; Africa grew by 41%.
Beyond its size and traffic, Fiumicino has distinguished itself as Europe's benchmark for quality. It holds a prestigious Skytrax 5-Star Airport certification β the only airport in Italy and one of just twelve worldwide to have achieved this status. For seven consecutive years through 2024, the airport was named the Best Airport in Europe for Quality of Passenger Services by ACI World (Airports Council International), recognising its facilities, cleanliness, shopping, dining, and staff service. A major renovation of Terminal 3 costing over β¬250 million was completed in recent years, and in January 2025 Fiumicino inaugurated a 22 MW solar power plant β one of the largest inside any airport in Europe β as part of its goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030.
The airport's history is deeply intertwined with the fortunes of Italian aviation. It served for decades as the hub for Alitalia, Italy's former national carrier, until its bankruptcy and replacement by ITA Airways (Italia Trasporto Aereo) in 2021. ITA Airways was subsequently acquired by the Lufthansa Group, and is expected to join the Star Alliance in 2026. Aeroporti di Roma (ADR), owned principally by Atlantia/Mundys Group and Changi Airports International, operates both Fiumicino and the smaller Ciampino Airport (CIA), which together handled 53.1 million passengers in 2024. ADR has committed to a further β¬2 billion in infrastructure investment by 2027, including additional terminal expansions, new pier development, and a fourth runway.

Terminals & Gates
Overview: Two Active Terminals
Rome Fiumicino Airport currently operates two passenger terminals: Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. Terminal 2 was permanently demolished as part of the airport's modernisation programme. Terminal 5 (formerly used for US-bound flights) was incorporated into the Terminal 3 complex. The two active terminals are connected by internal pedestrian walkways and a free inter-terminal shuttle bus (every 5β15 minutes), though they are in close enough proximity that most passengers can walk between them in approximately 10β15 minutes. The airport's train station is located between the two terminals, accessible from both.
Terminal 1 β Domestic & Schengen Flights (ITA Airways Hub)
Terminal 1 is the home base for ITA Airways and handles all domestic Italian flights plus Schengen-area European departures. It serves Gates A1 through A83. The terminal was extensively upgraded in 2021β2022 with the opening of the new Boarding Area A (sometimes called Concourse A), which added 22 new gates, advanced biometric e-gates (facial recognition check-in and boarding), expanded security processing lanes, and new retail and dining areas. The terminal has its own dedicated drop-off and pick-up zone at the front entrance.
- Airlines at Terminal 1: ITA Airways, Ryanair, easyJet, Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian, Brussels Airlines, Air Europa, Finnair, Iberia, LOT Polish Airlines, Norwegian, SAS, TAP Air Portugal, Vueling, Transavia, Volotea, Eurowings, Bulgaria Air, Croatia Airlines, Condor, KM Malta Airlines, Air Baltic, Luxair, IcelandAir, Sky Alps, Sky Express, Smartwings, Tarom, and others
- Key alliances: Star Alliance (Lufthansa Group) partially; various European LCCs and unaffiliated carriers
- Lounges at Terminal 1: ITA Airways Hangar Lounge (Schengen, 980 mΒ², 150 seats β ITA Airways/Lufthansa Group premium passengers only; near Boarding Area A); Plaza Premium First Lounge (T1, 700 mΒ², 115 seats, opened December 2025, near gates A31βA52, pay-at-door β¬70 for 2 hours, 04:30β21:30 daily); Prima Vista Domus Lounge (Schengen, mezzanine, Priority Pass accepted, ~β¬40); Prima Vista T1 lounge (new, opened August 2025, 610 mΒ², Priority Pass, ~β¬40)

- Mezzanine level: Additional restaurants, bars, and lounges above the main concourse on the 2nd floor
Terminal 3 β International & Non-Schengen Flights (Largest Terminal)
Terminal 3 is the larger of the two terminals and handles the bulk of long-haul and non-Schengen international departures. It serves Gates E1 through E61. Terminal 3 incorporates what was formerly Terminal 5 and has had over β¬250 million invested in its recent renovation. A distinctive feature is the SkyBridge β an automated people mover (APM) that shuttles passengers unidirectionally between the main Terminal 3 building and its satellite gate building (Gates E31βE44) for non-Schengen departures. The SkyBridge operates one-way only: departing passengers board it in T3 to reach satellite gates; arriving passengers use it to return to T3. It cannot be used in reverse by departing passengers who have already passed through to the satellite.
- Airlines at Terminal 3: American Airlines, Air Canada, Delta Air Lines, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, British Airways, Singapore Airlines, Air China, China Eastern, China Southern, Korean Air, Japan Airlines (JAL), Air India, Air France, Alitalia legacy successor routes, United Airlines, Aeroflot (suspended), Turkish Airlines, EgyptAir, El Al, Royal Jordanian, Saudia, Kuwait Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, TAAG Angola, and many others

- Area E Mall: The major Tax-Free shopping zone is located in Terminal 3 between Gates E and the SkyBridge. Here, non-EU residents can benefit from a 22% VAT refund on eligible purchases regardless of nationality. Luxury brands (Gucci, Prada, Armani, Michael Kors, Montblanc, Victoria's Secret, Pandora) are concentrated here.
- Baggage storage: Located in the Arrivals hall of Terminal 3
- Pharmacy: Landside, Terminal 3 departure lounge (06:00β21:00)
Connecting Between Terminals
Terminals 1 and 3 are connected landside (before security) by covered pedestrian walkways β the walk takes approximately 10β15 minutes. A free inter-terminal shuttle bus also operates between both terminals, the parking areas, and the train station every 5β15 minutes (05:00β01:00; hourly on request 01:00β05:00). Airside connection between terminals for transit passengers requires exiting security in one terminal and re-entering security in the other, so allow at least 90 minutes for connections between the two.
---Transportation Guide
Getting from Rome Fiumicino Airport to the City Centre
Rome Fiumicino Airport is located 30β32 km southwest of central Rome. While the airport has no direct metro connection, it is excellently served by dedicated and regional trains, express bus shuttles, licensed taxis with fixed rates, and ride-hailing apps. The Leonardo Express train is far and away the fastest and most popular option for the city centre, but several other options offer excellent value depending on your destination in Rome.
Leonardo Express Train (Recommended β Fastest Option)
The Leonardo Express, operated by Trenitalia, is a non-stop dedicated airport train that connects Fiumicino Airport directly to Roma Termini β Rome's main railway station and the hub of the metro, bus, and regional rail networks. The journey takes exactly 32 minutes with no intermediate stops. From Termini, all of Rome is accessible via Metro lines A and B, dozens of bus routes, and the tram network.
- Ticket price: β¬14 per person one-way (single adult). Group of 4 tickets: β¬40 (saves β¬16 vs. individual tickets). Children under 4 travel free; children 4β11 travel free with one paying adult (Fare 1/Ter).
- Frequency: Every 15 minutes during peak hours; every 30 minutes off-peak
- First train from airport: 06:23 (approx.); Last train from airport: 23:23
- First train from Termini: 05:35; Last from Termini: 22:35
- Note: No Leonardo Express service after approximately 23:30 from the airport β plan accordingly for late-night arrivals
- The station is inside the airport complex, connected via moving walkways (allow 10β15 min walk from terminals). Follow "Treni / Stazione" signs.
- Buy tickets online at trenitalia.com or from yellow vending machines at the station. Validate before boarding (if using paper ticket). Contactless bank card tap-in is also available.
- Platforms 23β24 at Roma Termini for Leonardo Express trains
FL1 Regional Train (Budget Option β Multiple Rome Stations)
The FL1 Trenitalia regional commuter train provides a cheaper alternative, stopping at multiple stations in Rome. Unlike the Leonardo Express, it does not go to Termini β it serves Trastevere, Ostiense, Tuscolana, and Tiburtina stations, which connect to Rome's metro lines and buses. This is ideal for travellers staying in Trastevere, Testaccio, or Pigneto, as it stops closer to these neighbourhoods.
- Ticket price: approx. β¬6ββ¬8 one-way (much cheaper than Leonardo Express)
- Frequency: Every 15 minutes on weekdays; every 30 minutes on weekends/holidays
- Journey times: Trastevere (~30 min), Ostiense (~33 min), Tuscolana (~38 min), Tiburtina (~48 min)
- Same platforms as Leonardo Express β check the departure board carefully to board the correct train
- Print regional tickets before boarding β do NOT try to board with an unvalidated paper ticket
Bus β Shuttle Services to Roma Termini
Several bus companies operate coaches from Fiumicino Airport directly to Roma Termini and other city locations. The most established operators are SIT Bus Shuttle and Terravision. Buses depart from outside the arrivals area and are a budget-friendly option, though journey time is traffic-dependent.
- Route: Fiumicino Airport β Roma Termini (some also stop at Vatican/Piazza Risorgimento)
- Journey time: 50β70 minutes (traffic dependent; longer during peak rush hours)
- Ticket price: approx. β¬7ββ¬11 one-way; β¬13ββ¬18 return (book online for best rates)
- Frequency: Roughly every 40β60 minutes throughout the day
- Night buses: Cotral regional buses run to Tiburtina Station approximately hourly through the night at approx. β¬5
- SIT Bus also offers direct service to the Vatican area (Piazza Risorgimento/Via Cola di Rienzo) β useful for travellers staying near St Peter's Basilica
Taxi β Official Fixed Rate
Licensed white taxis in Rome operate on a fixed official rate of β¬55 for journeys between Fiumicino Airport and any destination within the Aurelian Walls (Rome's historic city centre). This fixed rate was increased from β¬50 to β¬55 in July 2024 by Rome municipality order and is fixed by law β the driver cannot legitimately charge more for this route. The journey takes 35β50 minutes in normal traffic, up to 75β90 minutes during rush hour.
- Fixed rate: β¬55 to/from any address within the Aurelian Walls (verified July 2024+)
- For destinations outside the Aurelian Walls (suburbs, EUR, Parioli, Prati), the meter applies β expect β¬55ββ¬80 depending on location
- Additional charges: night surcharge (22:00β06:00), Sundays and public holidays, large luggage (each additional bag over the standard allowance)
- The official taxi rank is located outside the Arrivals exit of both Terminal 1 and Terminal 3
- Taxis are white with a "TAXI" sign, a company logo, and a "SPQR" municipality emblem β use only these official white cabs
- Warning: Unlicensed taxi touts (NCC abusivi) actively solicit passengers at the airport. Politely decline and proceed to the official taxi rank. Never get in a car with a private individual approaching you inside the terminal.
Ride-Hailing β Uber, Bolt, FREE NOW
Uber Black, Uber Green, Bolt, and FREE NOW operate at Fiumicino. These are all NCC (noleggio con conducente β licensed private hire) vehicles, not metered taxis. Designated pick-up zones are in front of the Arrivals exits. Prices are fixed at booking and displayed before you confirm.
- Uber Black to central Rome: approx. β¬50ββ¬75 (premium vehicles; includes driver tip expectations)
- Bolt/FREE NOW: approx. β¬45ββ¬65
- During peak summer (JulyβAugust), surge pricing can significantly increase app-based fares β the fixed taxi may be cheaper during these periods
Car Rental
All major rental companies have desks in the arrivals area of Terminal 3 (international arrivals). Available companies include Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, Maggiore (National), Sixt, and several local Italian agencies. Vehicle collection is from the adjacent multi-storey rental car buildings, connected by moving walkways. The A91 Roma-Fiumicino motorway connects the airport directly to Rome's Grande Raccordo Anulare (ring road). Note: Rome's historic centre has an extensive ZTL (Zona a Traffico Limitato) restricted traffic zone β most hotels in the centre require advance-arranged permits. Always check with your hotel before driving into central Rome.
Hotel Shuttles
Most airport-area hotels (Hilton Rome Airport, Hilton Garden Inn, Marriott Rome Airport, Comfort Inn) run complimentary shuttle services to and from the terminals at scheduled times. The Hilton Rome Airport is also walkable via covered passage. Always confirm shuttle times with your hotel before arrival β some only pick up from Terminal 1 arrivals.

Parking A is closest to Terminal 1 (directly connected by lift and walkway); Parking D is recommended for Terminal 3. Together they provide approximately 3,500 covered spaces, including 74 EV charging bays (Parking B: 74 Γ 22kW stations for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles via the ADR E-Move Parking). The first 15 minutes in the multi-storey car parks are free.
- Parking is accessible directly from the A91 Roma-Fiumicino highway
- Maximum stay: 90 days

Two options: Lunga Sosta Coperto (covered, 2,000 spaces) and Lunga Sosta Scoperto (uncovered open-air, 2,100+ spaces). Both are located a short distance from the terminals and served by a free shuttle every 5 minutes (05:00β01:00; every 15 min 01:00β05:00 on request via intercom).

Kiss & Go (Free Drop-Off)
A free Kiss & Go zone is provided in front of both Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 for rapid passenger drop-offs. These are not parking areas β stopping to load or wait is prohibited and enforced. For picking up arriving passengers, use the Short-Stay T1 or T3 car parks.
Off-Airport Private Parking
Numerous private parking operators are located within 5β10 minutes of the airport, many offering valet service (you drive to the terminal, hand keys to a driver, and the car is brought back on your return). Popular private operators include ParkingWay, AeroPark Fiumicino, KingParking, and ParkinGO. Pre-booked prices from these operators typically range from β¬10ββ¬20 for 1 week β far cheaper than official ADR long-stay rates. Always book in advance online.

Premium paid WiFi is not a standard feature, as the free service is widely considered sufficient. EU roaming regulations mean that travellers with EU SIM cards can use their home data plans at no extra charge within Italy.

Duty-free shopping is handled by Lagardère Travel Retail's Aelia Duty Free, which manages over 9,000 products from 600+ brands including perfumes, cosmetics, spirits, tobacco, confectionery, and electronics. In 2024, ADR launched the Shop&Fly digital pre-order service (shop.adr.it), allowing passengers to browse and reserve products online before arriving at the airport, with a 10% discount versus in-store prices. A Personal Shopper service, Book-a-Table, and Take Away & Fly pre-ordering are also available.
The Area E Mall (Terminal 3, Tax-Free zone) is the premium shopping area for non-EU passengers, offering a 22% VAT exemption. Luxury brands present include Gucci, Prada, Armani, Versace, Bulgari, Montblanc, Michael Kors, Pandora, and Victoria's Secret. Leonardo da Vinci's legacy is celebrated through art installations and displays of his inventions throughout the terminal β including his famous flying machine sketches and anatomical studies. A boutique selling replicas of his works is also located airside.
Dining
Both terminals offer extensive dining from casual to sit-down restaurants. Highlights include traditional Italian trattoria-style restaurants, pizza counters, espresso bars (Italian espresso standard is high throughout the airport), sushi counters, fast food (McDonald's, Burger King), and more. The mezzanine level of Terminal 1 offers higher-quality restaurant options with runway views. WHSmith bookshops are located in both the public and airside areas (T3 landside 06:00β21:00; T3 airside near gate E31 06:00β19:00). The online "Book a Table" service allows pre-reservation of airport restaurant seats via the ADR website. 24-hour dining options are limited inside the terminal; the Hilton Rome Airport hotel restaurant is the main option for very late-night meals.
Medical Facilities
Two pharmacies operate at Fiumicino: one in the landside departure hall of Terminal 1 (06:00β21:30) and one in the landside departure lounge of Terminal 3 (06:00β21:00). A medical/first aid centre is also available β airport staff can direct you or call emergency services (dial 118 for Italian medical emergencies). AEDs are positioned throughout both terminals. The nearest major hospital is the Ospedale G.B. Grassi (approx. 15 minutes by car).
Family Facilities
Fiumicino has dedicated nursery rooms for breastfeeding and nappy changing in both terminals. Children's play areas are located in the departure areas. Pink priority parking spaces near terminal entrances are reserved for families with young children and pregnant women. Family security lanes are available β look for dedicated "Family" signage or ask at information desks. Pushchairs/strollers can be taken through security and to the aircraft gate.
Accessibility β PRM Services
ADR Assistance provides comprehensive Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRM) services. Request assistance through your airline at booking. Wheelchair assistance is available from car park to aircraft gate and vice versa. Sunflower Lanyard programme: Fiumicino participates in the international hidden disability scheme β passengers with non-visible disabilities can collect a free sunflower lanyard at ADR Assistance information points to indicate they may need extra patience or support from staff. Lifts and ramped access are throughout both terminals. Guide dogs are welcome.
Currency Exchange & ATMs
Multiple currency exchange desks (including Eurochange and Forexchange) are available landside in both terminals. Exchange rates are unfavourable compared to city-centre banks β for better value, use ATMs (Bancomat). ATMs accepting Visa, Mastercard, and Maestro are located in both terminals on the landside. Note: Italian ATMs use chip-and-PIN; US magnetic-stripe-only cards may not work β bring a chip card or exchange currency at home. Withdrawal limits are typically β¬250ββ¬500 per transaction, up to β¬1,000/day depending on bank/machine. Contactless card payment (including Apple Pay and Google Pay) is accepted at virtually all airport shops, restaurants, and parking.
Luggage Storage
Baggage storage is available in the Arrivals hall of Terminal 3. Operating hours: daily. Prices: approximately β¬6ββ¬9 per bag per 24 hours depending on size. This is useful for day-trippers to Rome or passengers with a long layover who wish to explore the city without their luggage.
Smoking
Smoking (including e-cigarettes and vaping) is prohibited inside all terminal buildings. Designated outdoor smoking areas are located outside the Arrivals exits of both Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. No airside (post-security) smoking areas exist β passengers who need to smoke must exit the building before security and re-clear security to return, which is impractical. Plan accordingly for long departures.
Prayer Rooms
Non-denominational interfaith prayer rooms are available in both terminals. Ask at information desks for current locations, as these move periodically with ongoing renovations. Prayer washing facilities are adjacent to the prayer rooms.
Showers
Public showers are available at the HelloSky Arrival Lounge & Day Rooms, located approximately 50 metres from the terminal, near the railway station β follow signs from the covered pedestrian bridge. Cost: β¬20 including towel and toiletries rental. Showers are also available within the ITA Airways Hangar Lounge, Plaza Premium First Lounge, Avia Lounge, and Prima Vista lounges for eligible lounge access holders.
Pets
Fiumicino has designated pet relief areas β comfortable outdoor spaces near both terminals where dogs and cats can rest and roam. Ask ADR Assistance staff for directions. Pets travelling in the cabin require an airline-approved carrier; pets travelling as cargo use the dedicated Cargo City area with animal handling facilities.
---Airlines & Destinations
Hub Carrier
ITA Airways (Italia Trasporto Aereo) is Italy's national flag carrier and Fiumicino's dominant hub airline, operating from Terminal 1. ITA was founded in 2021 as the successor to the bankrupt Alitalia and was acquired by the Lufthansa Group. ITA is expected to formally join the Star Alliance in 2026. The airline operates extensive domestic Italian routes plus intercontinental services to North America (New York JFK, Boston, Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles, Toronto), South America (SΓ£o Paulo, Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires, Santiago), Africa (Accra, Dakar), and the Middle East (Riyadh, Jeddah, Kuwait City). In 2024, ITA added Chicago, Toronto, Riyadh, Accra, Dakar, and Jeddah to its network.

Pro Tips for Rome Fiumicino
- The SkyBridge automated people mover in Terminal 3 is one-way only: it takes departing passengers from Terminal 3 to the satellite gates (E31βE44) but cannot reverse. If your gate assignment changes from a SkyBridge gate to a regular E gate, or vice versa, allow extra time. Always confirm your gate on the departure boards inside Terminal 3 before joining any queue.
- For non-Schengen passport control (Terminal 3, E-gates area), EU/Schengen passport holders with biometric passports can use the automated e-gates (typically 5β20 seconds per person). Non-EU travellers (US, UK, etc.) must use staffed counters β these can be 30β60 minutes during peak summer arrivals. If you have a tight connection through Fiumicino, always confirm connection times with your airline. The Minimum Connecting Time at FCO is generally 60 minutes for Schengen-to-Schengen and 90 minutes for connections involving Terminal changes.
- The Area E Mall in Terminal 3 offers a legitimate 22% VAT refund on duty-free purchases for non-EU residents β this applies regardless of your nationality, simply because you are departing Italy to a non-EU destination. This is one of the best duty-free deals in Europe, substantially reducing the cost of Italian luxury goods from Gucci, Prada, Armani and others. Pre-order using the ADR Shop&Fly service (shop.adr.it) for a further 10% discount on Aelia Duty Free products.
- For a great espresso, skip the fast food chains and find a traditional Italian bar (cafΓ©) at either terminal. The standard of Italian coffee throughout Fiumicino is significantly better than at most northern European airports β a proper double espresso costs β¬1.50ββ¬2.50. The mezzanine level restaurants in Terminal 1 offer the best sit-down options with quieter seating.
- Buy your Leonardo Express ticket online at trenitalia.com before arriving at the airport β it saves time at the vending machines (queues can be 10β15 minutes at peak hours) and you can board any train after your selected time. The group fare (4 tickets for β¬40) is a significant saving for families or groups of 4 vs. individual β¬14 tickets.
- If flying ITA Airways from Terminal 1, download the ITA Airways app and complete online check-in up to 24 hours before departure. Self-service bag drop kiosks at T1 are fast and efficient. Boarding Area A (gates A1βA83) features facial recognition biometric boarding β this speeds the boarding process dramatically but requires you to have registered your face data beforehand via the app or kiosk.
- Book parking online at adr.it well in advance for official Easy Parking at significantly reduced rates β particularly for Lunga Sosta (long-stay) covered or uncovered options, which can be 40β50% cheaper online vs. drive-up. If you prefer even cheaper options, compare private valet operators on Parkos or Parclick, which can offer 7-day stays from as little as β¬10ββ¬15.
- Italy's ZTL (Zona a Traffico Limitato) restricted traffic zones cover most of Rome's historic centre. If you are renting a car at Fiumicino and planning to drive to a central Rome hotel, contact the hotel in advance to obtain a temporary ZTL entry permit β failure to enter the ZTL without a permit results in fines sent weeks later from Italian authorities to the car rental company, which then charge them to your credit card.
- Taking the wrong train from the airport station: Both the Leonardo Express (β¬14, non-stop to Termini in 32 min) and the FL1 regional train (β¬6ββ¬8, multiple stops, does NOT go to Termini) depart from the same platforms. Many passengers board the cheaper FL1 expecting to reach Termini and end up stranded at Ostiense or Trastevere stations. Always check the departure board carefully: the Leonardo Express displays 'ROMA TERMINI' as its only stop, while FL1 trains list multiple intermediate stations.
- Accepting a taxi offer from a person inside the terminal building: Unlicensed taxi touts operate aggressively inside Fiumicino's arrivals areas, sometimes dressed officially and quoting prices that sound reasonable (β¬30ββ¬40 to central Rome). The official fixed rate in a real taxi is β¬55 β these touts often charge β¬80ββ¬150 for the same journey or use manipulated meters. Walk past any individual approaching you inside β the official taxi rank is outside Arrivals, clearly signposted.
- Underestimating connection times in summer: Fiumicino processed a record 180,000 passengers in a single day in August 2024. Security queues in Terminal 1 during the July-August peak regularly run 45β75 minutes. Non-Schengen passport control in Terminal 3 can take 45β60 minutes for non-EU passport holders during peak morning arrivals. If you have a connecting flight at Fiumicino (FCO to FCO transit), always allow at least 90 minutes and ideally 2 hours during summer β don't rely on published MCT (Minimum Connecting Time) of 60 minutes during July/August.
